We were joined in the afternoon by @V14_Heels, we got to talk a little at the range and gave him a peep of the Edel SMS irons. He and @jfox789 played together before so they were going to have a reunion round. I wanted a chance to play with as many of the participants as possible and knew Mirror Image wasn’t in my foursomes at Dormie so asked to play with them. It’s been said already but @Jeff Spicoli hits it a mile. And guess what, so does his partner. @FranTheMan also had his real actual camera with him and took a lot of nice shots that you saw loaded up in this thread.

I had a bit of a headache during the second round so wanted to just relax and try to get to bed early to help acclimate to the time change better. @echico and I stayed back while the other 3 went out for some seafood which isn’t my thing really.

Let me just throw in a little about my room at Mid pines. It’s like a 200 year old hotel, a very strong distinct odor scent greets you when you walk through the door. Fortunately it is somewhat confined to the downstairs lobby area. It is interesting to see some of the history, old pictures and fixtures. Our room had an AC in the corner but it had a box fan sitting on top to actually blow throught the room haha. The door to the adjoining room didn’t close on our side, luckily it was our group next door so not a big deal.

Wednesday we had another round set up in the AM before me ultimately made our way to Dormie. We played Tobacco Road, it’s a beautiful course with some tough holes. The night before @BigDill and @Afizzle2100 showed up so @Legalize Mulligans and I got to play with them. @BigDill suffers as we all do with an occasional miss off the tee but when he connects this guy was 40 yards past me some of the holes. @Afizzle2100 is also a bomber and hit some great shots out there. Both of these two are funny guys and we had a good time out on the course. We had a bit of a quick storm come through and it rained for a couple holes on the back nine.

We finished up the round and @Steve2100 and @Golfers Anonymous had flown in and met us at the course. We all headed over to Dormie from there.

It rained on us for a bit

I love these photos! @JB Craig had mentioned sending him some photos showcasing the Nitron. Any way we can get ahold of him?

Post them in the review thread and we make sure he gets them. If you prefer you can send them directly to me and I can send them as well.

This is an appropriate starter purchase, just enough to dip you toe in the water

Yes. Absolutely yes. That needs to be shown to the world…often

Went down to the range to check it out a little then back to the cabin to get showered up and ready for dinner. Finally met up with my partner @TWright971 and we got going to the dinner. We may have been the last ones to arrive but whos paying attention to that. We find this in our seats with everything you see here included. I did combine all my stuff packing but I don’t think I missed anything. Socks are FJ, the shirts and pullover are Peter Millar and the backpack is Travis Mathew. All awesome stuff. Balls are THP logo balls. Tee bag, tees, ball marker, bag tag are all Budget Golf logoed. The Budget Championship 2022 on all of it is so cool. Now I’m trying to convince one of my kids to take my old backpack so I don’t feel bad since it’ll be sitting idle from now on.

@JB gave us some info about the plan for the next day and the event itself followed by @Ryan_BudgetGolf giving us a good deal of info about Budget Golf and their philosophy, their future and their past. It’s awesome to get to hear things you just wouldn’t ever know otherwise. The staff was setting up our dinner and we finally got to dig in to the taco bar. Good eats.

After dinner we all headed to the putting green for some night putting and they handed out ANOTHER unexpected gift, the BC22 logoed headcovers.

We hung out there for about an hour I’d guess and then I found myself giving a bit of an impromptu putting lesson on side saddle putting. It’s not difficult and it lets you keep your head in it’s normal orientation while you look down the line so your perspective doesn’t change, but it does take a little time to adjust if you’ve always putted traditionally. There are a lot of methods out there that still require coordination of both hands but my nethod eliminates that so only the right hand moves which deducts one of the variables in the stroke. ANYWAY, back to the story.

@BigDill brought Cards Against Humanity and several of the guys came to our cabin to play, seems @Golfers Anonymous is a pro because he kinda crushed the rest of us. After that we all headed off to get some sleep.

You could say some of team Brady was not the most responsive leading up to the event, so it was suggested we use the Team Mirror Image logo and make it Team MIA (missing in action)

And we are grateful for you!!

Also, Bag Boy has one of the coolest stand bags ever coming out in January, so much so that I am holding off my search because I think I found my perfect bag.

So excited for this event to come back!! Absolute blast, and I cannot wait for more THPers to experience the Budget Golf Championship!

@FranTheMan Do you have a link to the high res images (if you’re ok sharing)?

Seriously, what is up with the Dormie Network logo in the top left on these scorecards? It’s really tough for my OCD to digest

Also we talked and I suggested it would be good for him to join the forum so he could see our info personally and how we as THPers love interacting with representatives of the companies that help support us and the site. Send this message to him haha and tell him to sign on up.

That was about the only thing at Dormie that wasn’t too notch.

Can we get a better picture of the bookcase over your left shoulder sometime?

I wish they had a mallet too

I looked for you. Was told they were looking to possibly add them down the road.

And all of my worries pretty much disappeared upon getting to dinner. Everyone that was at this event was so happy to be there, and were so easy to talk to. The conversations flowed pretty easy about how lucky we were to be there, how great the Dormie Club is, easy conversations about where people were from and what they did for work. The second day I heard about dynamic handicapping from @BigDill which I still think is a fascinating idea.

My on course worries disappeared after the first tee shot. It helped that my group teed off last that first round so I got to watch everyone tee off before us. But playing with @Datkison, @Legalize Mulligans and @Steve2100 was like playing golf with my brothers. Conversation was easy (when I could speak cause the walk was killing me) and everyone was really rooting for each other to play as well as possible. This continued into the next round playing with @JB and @Ryan_BudgetGolf who weee always rooting for everyone’s ball to end up in the best possible position. I hit my share of decent shots, rolled in a couple nice putts, and hit my share of horrible shots, but not once did it feel like I shouldn’t be there or wasn’t wanted because I was a high handicap golfer who struggles on occasion.

Looking back after a week at home and I’m struck by how much going to a THP event changes how you view this forum. Before this event I liked looking at the forum for equipment reviews, thoughts on how to get better, but I didn’t really understand all that this offered. I think I understand that more now after meeting the 15 wonderful people that were part of the THP experience. I hope that I’m lucky enough to get to hang out and play more golf with each of you in the future and hope to meet more golf crazy THPers as well.

Just flipped the markers over for these 2 pics. They’re heavy and slightly magnetic.

@Datkison and @TWright971 it was great to play against you that first day! @Datkison you really can golf that ball! And thank you for putting the gift for @JB and the sponsors together! @TWright971 it was great to tee it up with you! Just a nice , consistent swing who always seemed to be in the fairway!

@echico and @Golfers Anonymous thank you for the great match on Friday! @echico is just a fun, knowledgeable guy who should have won more rounds in Cards against Humanity but got no love from the judges. And those CALVES are no joke! Cody it was great to meet you at the airport and lunch at Pinehurst. This forum can put people together that have never met but when they do it is like they have known each other for years! You epitomize what this forum is all about -just a helpful, friendly golf lover with a great personality!

@BigDill and @Afizzle2100 I wasn’t able to tee it up against you but came away impressed with your sense of humor and your kindness! I never knew pickles were so funny! Playing Cards against Humanity with you guys was one of my highlights!

@jfox789 and @Wholeinone while I didn’t get to play against you I did see you hit on the range and can see how you 2 won! @jfox789 with just an smooth powerful swing and @Wholeinone just always straight and down the middle. You are my hero @Wholeinone I want to be able to hit it like you when I am your age(hell I want that now)!

Lastly I want to thank my partner @Legalize Mulligans! What can I say you always put a smile on my face with your sense of humor and your easy going ways! For only playing for 2 years you really can play and I am sure you will only get better! It was a pleasure meeting you and hope we see each other again in the future! When I watch this video all these thoughts will come back to me so thank you to all of you and the people on the forum that followed us! Just an amazing place this is!

It was great hanging with you. As always, I wish we could have had a few more days to hang and play more golf.

Next morning, got the Nitron loaded up with my bag and headed over to breakfast. I’m not much of a breakfast eater but they did have some good food so had a little. Hit a few shots on the range, spent some time in the proshop, decided to change shoes so borrowed a cart to drive back to the cottage, spent some more time in the proshop, then went to watch the first group tee off.

Let’s be honest, Dormie is not a flat property. It wasn’t crazy hard to walk but it sure wasn’t easy. @TWright971 and I played with Double Ditkas @Steve2100 and @Legalize Mulligans. They both have good games but when it came time to ham and egg it they were both egging or haming it up at the same time. Fortunately for the Commanding Wookiees for the most part we did keep at least one of us ( mostly him) scoring well. The odds had us 2nd from the bottom but we finished the round in 4th. Not a terrible start but tomorrow would be the test.

@Steve2100 swinging away as @Legalize Mulligans looks on

Had some lunch, my first pimento cheese ever. Some of the guys had already gone back out to play but since we came in last and wanted to eat we waited it bit. At this point @Jeff Spicoli and I headed back out to play some extra golf. He texted @FranTheMan as we teed off and he met us on the 2nd tee. We were just trying to gt some practice in so dropping balls and hitting different shots. We still had dinner to get ready for so I headed back to my cabin after 12. Long drive and ended up taking a backwoods path to approach my cabin from the opposite side but found my way thanks to the GPS on the cart.

Black tees on 8 I think

Showered up and headed over to dinner. Tonight was Craig from BagBoy’s turn to talk about the company. There was a lot to learn about the company. They’ve been around a lot longer than you’d think. The company was founded in 1946 and has been transititioned through a number of lives. It was owned by Browning Arms, AMF who owned Ben Hogan and made it a subsidiary of BH, then later BH was sold seperately and BagBoy became an independent brand. After aquiring a few other companies Dynamic Brands was formed as a parent company since it wasn’t all about BagBoy and longer. You’ll find Devant sports towels, Datrek bags, iGotcha ball retrievers and several other companies. After we ate I was able to provide some direct feedback to Craig about what I liked about the Nitron as well as improvements I’d like to see. It was great to see him marka few notes down to pass along to the engineering teams responsible. This is one of the reasons I love supporting those companies that sponsor THP because they all seem to legitimately care about us as golfers and our opinions.

We got this bag made by Burton and the towel is from Devant. Both are subsidiaries of Dynamic Brands. We also got a full catalog of all the products from DB.

After dinner they brought out a plate of Wookiees, sorry I mean cookies. They may have been a tribute to us Wookiees as I did pass out stickers to a lot of the staff to show their support of the Commanding Wookiees. At this point JB may have said I was DQed when the waitress brought me out a glass of milk, something about me being an 8 year old maybe, I don’t know exactly. I took my milk and wookiees cookies back to the cottage to enjoy and then started packing up my stuff. Knowing I planned to do some proshop spending here and over the weekend I packed my Nitron for shipment home and filled in all around it with my dirty laundry. Genius, I know, extra luggage space. Some of the guys came over again for some more CAH but I wanted to get all the packing done and go to bed early so I sat out. I succeeded with the packing aspect but still didn’t get to bed until midnight.

Some of my rambling probably gets boring so sorry for that.

Neither of our groups played great but the CW did manage to maintain our position in 4th place. What we did do though was finish over half an hour before the group behind us. Something about THPers being slow, not sure. We had our lunch while waiting for everyone else to finish and keeping up with the live updates as to where everyone stood. It looked like Slinging Bags took the lead for a second but 18 took a toll and Team Tom Brady came out on top. We hung out talking for a little while, all the sponsors had to take off but we were given the go ahead to stay and play more if we wanted to. Mirror Image and CW went back out to play.

I’m on the first hole and the cart tells me I am in a restricted area and to back out. I back up and turn around and start to head away from that area and it says I’m in a restricted area and to put the cart in reverse and back out. I try to back out and then end up in some pine needles and then against a tree and have no where to go. I’m part panicking because I don’t know if someone else plans to tee off and I’m also holding everyone else back, I’m part annoyed because it was stupid that the cart was doing that, and of course embarassed that I’m stuck by this tree. I called up to the proshop and spoke with Courtney who I had just been working with to find a shirt to buy. She got my cart unlocked and away we went. Finally. On two I found a wedge by the green. After teeing off on 3, @Jeff Spicoli is waiting for the group in front of us to clear the green as he’s going for it. I say I’m gonna run it up to them. I drive up to the green and give the guy his wedge. They are slow and take forever to load their cart and @Jeff Spicoli has hit so I’m going to go back down to my ball. I’m on the cart path at this point. I haven’t moved since pulling up to hand this guy his club. Suddenly the cart tells me that I’m restricted and need to back up and return to the cart path. I’M ON THE CART PATH. I had to back 150 yards down the hill before it said I was released. WTF. Head out to the fairway, you can see on the GPS where the restriction is. I vow to go nowhere near it but that’s irrelevant becasue in the middle of the fairway it tells me I need to back up. *Wookiee noises* Killing me. Once it clears, I get out and go to my ball and @TWright971 is gonna take it back up to the green. He tells me after as soon as I got out that the restricted zone disappears off the GPS. Wow. We skip a couple holes to get around this slow group in front of us and @TWright971 quits after 11 as his knee is starting to hurt. When we get to 16 I hit my tee shot and feel something pull in my midback. I have 3 more rounds planned at Pinehurt this weekend so that’s it for me. I’m done. We say our goodbyes to @FranTheMan and @Jeff Spicoli and head back. @TWright971 has agreed to give me a ride to PH so we grab our stuff and he drops me off.

Get checked in to the Holly Inn which was built in 1895. It, unlike the first place, has been updated and is a nice big room. Honestly I think it was about twice the size of the first bedroom. Met @Carolina Dundee as he was joining @jfox789 and me for the weekend. Funny enough that made it easy to deliver the prize pack that the Commanding Wookiees gave away since I was rooming with the guy who won it. Our package included dinner and we had reservations for the 1895 Grille. Turns out you need pants as it’s "fancy" dining. We had no pants. Instead made our way to the tavern on site and got to knwo each other and have dinner. He was nice enough to bring me a 12 pack of Dr Pepper Zero so got that on ice for later and finally got some sleep.

Those Johhnie-O’s are so comfortable if l’d have known would have grabbed 10 more.
